A college town that deserves
more than a college-town roofer.

Monmouth sits in the heart of Polk County, just west of Salem in the mid-Willamette Valley. With about 10,500 residents — many of them connected to Western Oregon University — the city has a mix of historic homes near downtown, mid-century residential neighborhoods, newer developments on the edges of town, and a substantial inventory of rental properties serving the student population.

While Monmouth doesn't face salt spray or ocean winds, it still gets over 45 inches of rain annually and sits in the path of Pacific storm systems that cross the Coast Range. Winter ice storms are more common here than on the coast, and the combination of heavy rain, freezing temperatures, and mature Douglas fir and oak trees creates significant roof hazards — falling limbs, ice dams, and standing water from clogged gutters filled with valley leaf debris.

The residential areas around the WOU campus include many older homes built in the 1940s through 1970s with original or aging roofs that need careful assessment. The newer subdivisions toward the east side and along Monmouth Avenue have modern construction but still face the valley's persistent moisture and moss growth. Tru-North's 55+ years of experience battling Oregon's worst weather means we over-engineer every project — your Monmouth roof gets the same attention to detail and material quality that keeps coastal homes dry through 67 inches of rain and 60 mph winds.

Did you know?

Monmouth roof challenges.
Valley weather is no joke.

Ice storms hit the valley harder
Monmouth experiences ice storms that the coast rarely sees. Ice accumulates on shingles and in gutters, creating ice dams that force water under roofing materials. Tru-North installs with ice-and-water shield at all eaves and valleys.
Mature trees mean heavy debris
Monmouth's established neighborhoods are full of large Douglas fir, Oregon white oak, and big-leaf maple trees. Falling limbs cause direct damage, and leaf debris clogs gutters rapidly, leading to fascia rot and foundation erosion.
45+ inches of annual rainfall
Monmouth gets less rain than the coast, but 45 inches is still substantial. The valley's flatter terrain means water doesn't drain as quickly, and standing moisture on flat or low-slope roofs creates persistent leak risks.
Rental housing needs constant attention
With WOU bringing thousands of students, Monmouth has significant rental housing stock. Deferred maintenance on rental roofs leads to expensive emergencies. Annual inspections catch small problems before they become big ones.
Monmouth reviews

Trusted in Polk County.
Real feedback from real homeowners.

"Tru-North replaced the roof on our 1985 split-level near the university. They came over from the coast and the quality of their work was noticeably better than the two Salem contractors we got quotes from. Coast guys just build things tougher."

Near WOU campus, Monmouth
"I own three rental properties near campus. Tru-North inspects all three annually and handles any repairs. They're responsive, fairly priced, and understand the urgency of keeping rental roofs in shape. Highly recommend for landlords."

"Had a big Douglas fir limb come down on our roof during an ice storm. Tru-North had us tarped the next day and the full repair done within two weeks. Lorin personally oversaw the insurance process. Outstanding service."
